In this article you’ll learn everything related to Nautical maps, from coverage, access, depth units, map symbols & more
How to access Nautical maps
1. Tap the Map type button in your top-right of the main map screen
2. Select “Nautical” from the options
Why can’t I see depth contours for my local water body?
When the Nautical map type is selected, you can view depth contours for saltwater areas worldwide and major freshwater bodies. Unfortunately, smaller freshwater bodies aren’t covered by the nautical maps provided in our app.
How to read the depth charts?
Depth is shown in meters, and this unit cannot be changed in Settings. The depth measurements are usually comprised of two numbers, a large (main) number is usually followed by a small offset number, which depicts decimal depths.
For example, “41” means the water is 4.1 meters deep.
Restrictions and offline use
Due to chart provider safety restrictions, current speed and GPS location cannot be shown on nautical charts in all geographic regions.
Nautical maps are generally not downloadable, with the exception of U.S. NOAA nautical charts, which are available for offline use.
Nautical map symbols and their meaning
For users seeking a more detailed understanding of nautical maps, we’re including the full chart symbol legend provided by our map provider here.
