Map layers help identify biologically rich habitats that are often ideal for fishing. By enabling specific layers on the map, you can gain insights into marine environments and increase your chances of a plentiful catch.
How to access Map layers
1. Tap the Map type button in your top-right of the main map screen
2. Toggle layers on/off to show/hide them on the map
Seagrass
Seagrass meadows are essential to marine ecosystems, providing shelter and food for a wide variety of fish species. The Seagrass layer highlights these underwater meadows in green color, allowing you to identify potential hotspots for fish activity and better understand the ecological layout of coastal waters. This layer is currently available only in the US & Australia.
Oyster beds
Oyster beds support biodiversity and contribute to water clarity by filtering nutrients. This layer displays known oyster reef locations in orange color, helping you identify areas where fish commonly feed and congregate, especially species associated with reef structures. This layer is currently available only for the US South & East Coast.
Mangroves
Mangroves serve as nurseries and protective cover for juvenile fish and other marine life. The Mangrove layer outlines the presence of mangrove forests along coastlines in brown color, offering valuable information for locating nearby fishing opportunities and understanding fish movement in tidal zones. This layer is currently available only in North & South America, Oceania and Asia.
Why can’t I see Map layers?
The Map layers feature is available exclusively to Fishing Points Premium subscribers, so it won’t be accessible to users on the free version of the app.
Additionally, not all map layers are available globally. Some layers are limited to specific regions based on available data. If you can’t find or see a particular map layer in the app, make sure to check its geographical coverage.
